Course Introduction: Health II is the second course of a two-course sequence on health education. This course is a required course for graduation. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will understand key information and concepts related to the promotion of sexual health, the promotion of eating healthy, the promotion of physical activity, and the prevention and control of disease.
- Explain why abstinence is the safest, most effective method of protection from HPV, STD/HIV, Hepatitis B and C and Pregnancy.
- Effectively communicate the decision and behaviors of family, peers and others that promote healthy sexual behaviors.
- Use decision-making process to make healthy choices around sexual health.
- Explain physical, academic, mental, and social benefits of physical activity and the relationship of a sedentary lifestyle to chronic disease.
- Access information about the recommended amount and types of physical activity for adolescents.
- Describe dietary guidelines, food groups, nutrients and serving size for healthy eating habits.
- Critique the adequacy of own diet for key nutrients and identify foods that supply the identified nutrients.
- Set a personal goal based on a dietary analysis to enhance health.
- Identify screenings including melanoma, breast and testicular self-examinations, and medical examinations, including Pap smear, HPV, STD, HIV and Hepatitis B and C testing necessary to maintain productive health.
- Advocate to others the importance of screenings and medical examinations to maintain reproductive health.

Course Introduction: Physical Education I is an introductory course on physical education. It is required for high school graduation. Upon completion of this course, the student will have demonstrated a variety of motor skills and understand basic movement concepts in relation to team and individual sports. The students will be familiar with rules and strategies for various activities. In addition, the student will have an understanding of lifetime fitness and how to utilize certain activities to achieve this fitness. Finally, students will identify and progress through personal behaviors that will aid in personal success, communication, and sportsmanship.
- Demonstrate knowledge of a variety of motor skills.
- Understand and apply movement concepts.
- Understand rules and strategies for a variety of physical activities.
- Demonstrate knowledge of a physically active lifestyle.
- Understand the meaning of physical fitness and how personal fitness can be improved and maintained using health-related fitness assessment as one tool for measuring.
- Understand appropriate and positive behavior management (social skills) and respect for all individual differences, including gender, ethnicity, and physical ability during physical activity.
- Understand and utilize personal behaviors that focus on attitude, effort, motivation, and character.
ADVANCED PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Course Description: Advanced Physical Education is an elective course. It is not required for high school graduation. Students in this course are expected to have successfully completed Physical Education I. Exceptions for enrollment may be made in unique circumstances. Upon completion of this course, the student will have become advanced in skills, rules, strategies, and concepts in numerous individual and team sports. The student will become familiar with physical education activities in foreign countries and be able to teach said activities. Finally, the student will identify and progress through personal behaviors that will aid in personal success, communication, and sportsmanship.
- Demonstrate knowledge of a variety of advanced motor skills.
- Understand and apply advanced movement concepts.
- Understand rules and complex strategies for a variety of physical activities.
- Identify and describe foreign (outside the US) physical activity games and design lesson to be used in instructing classmates.
- Understand appropriate and positive behavior management (social skills) and respect for all individual differences, including gender, ethnicity, and physical ability during physical activity.
- Understand and utilize personal behaviors that focus on attitude, effort, motivation, and character.
WEIGHT TRAINING

Course Introduction: Weight Training is an elective course. It is not required for high school graduation. This course will utilize the Bigger, Faster, Stronger strength and conditioning program to meet various Oregon physical education standards. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to maximize performance, while minimizing the risk of injury. Through journals and recordkeeping, students will track their improvement over the duration of this course to meet appropriate physical fitness goals.
- Demonstrate competency in basic and complex versions of strength training and conditioning.
- Assess and analyze personal fitness status and develop personal fitness goals.
- Use goal-setting techniques to improve personal fitness levels and potential.
- Correctly interpret results of physical fitness assessments and use them to develop a written fitness program.
- Apply rules, procedures, and etiquette that are safe and effective for specific activities/situations.
