Introduction to Agricultural Science and Technology

  • Grades 9-12
  • Length of Course: 1 year
  • Prerequisite: None

Ag I is a gateway course for any student with  vocational or avocational interest in agriculture. This course is designed for freshmen and sophomores who have never taken an agricultural course before. Introduction to Agricultural Science and Technology introduces students to FFA, leadership, career development, communications, personal finance and business, animal sciences, plant sciences, natural resources, and agricultural mechanics through experiential learning that takes place in the classroom, shop, land lab, and greenhouse.

Exploration of Agricultural Science and Technology

  • Grades 10-12
  • Length of Course: 1 year
  • Prerequisite: Ag I

Ag II is a course designed for sophomores and juniors to delve deeper into the study of leadership, career development, communications, personal finance and business, animal sciences, plant sciences, natural resources, and agricultural mechanics, and to introduce soil science and food science to students through experiential learning that takes place in the classroom, shop, land lab, greenhouse and other appropriate venues.

Advanced Agricultural Science and Technology

  • Grades 11-12
  • Length of Course:1 year
  • Prerequisite: Ag II

Ag III is the capstone Ag series course, designed for juniors and seniors to expand upon the concepts and skills in animal sciences, plant sciences, natural resources, soil development, personal finance and business, and agricultural mechanics. Ag III prepares students for post-secondary endeavors including, but not limited to: employment, technical institute, community college, and university.

Ag Leadership

  • Length of Course: 1 Year
  • Prerequisite: Ag I, II and III

Agricultural Leadership is a class designed for upperclassmen that have completed Ag I, II and III. The focus of the class is development of premier leadership skills, professional development, and personal growth to meet diploma requirements through agricultural education and FFA. Students enrolled in this course will maintain records on their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE), work towards meeting the requirements of the state FFA Degree, and expand agricultural knowledge and technical skills to be successful in a variety of Career Development Events (CDEs). Emphasis will be placed on assuming leadership positions in the FFA organization, school and community. The end result of the course will be a portfolio exceeding the diploma requirements. Maintaining an agricultural education during senior year is necessary for FFA membership and consideration of scholarships through the State and National FFA Organization.

Agricultural Mechanics

The goal of this course is to prepare students for improvement and maintenance of urban and rural homes, adjacent building and equipment. Skills will be developed in tool use, electricity, land use and evaluation, basic metal working and welding, plumbing, and small engine theory and operation.

Metals I:Introduction Welding

  • Length of Course: 1 year
  • Prerequisite: None

Metals I is a course designed to introduce students to metal identification, tool use and maintenance, and welding techniques and processes. Students will learn how to properly use and care for tools including, but not limited to: grinders, band saw, drill press, and hand tools.Students will also learn the concepts and skills associated with gas welding, gas cutting, plasma cutting, and arc welding.This course prepares students for advanced courses such as Metals II.

Metals II: Advanced Welding

  • Grades 11-12
  • Length of Course: 1 year
  • Prerequisite:Metals I or Ag II

Metals II is a course designed to allow students to further develop skills acquired in Metals I and learn new skills and techniques associated with welding. Students will perform more advanced arc and gas welding techniques, as well as be introduced to TIG and MIG welding processes. This course prepares students for welding certification.

TA: Ag Teacher’s Assistant

  • Grades 11-12
  • Length of Course: 1 semester
  • Prerequisite: Instructor Approval

The Ag/Hort Teachers Assistant position is available to students who are self motivated and preferably have taken the course for which they will be assisting. TAs will be responsible for assisting the teacher in setting up classroom assignments, projects, demonstrations, experiments, and labs.

Welding Teacher’s Assistant

  • Grades 11-12
  • Length of Course: 1 semester
  • Prerequisite: Metals I

The Welding Teachers Assistant position is available to students who are self motivated and have a prior knowledge of metal shop procedures. TAs will be responsible for assisting the teacher in setting up classroom assignments, projects, demonstrations, experiments, experiments, and labs.

Independent Study

  • Grades 11-12
  • Length of Course: Semester/Year
  • Prerequisites: Instructor Approval

Independent Study is available to students who wish to participate in Agricultural Education or FFA but cannot fit an appropriate class in their schedule. Students must be self motivated. A plan of study will be drafted by the student and instructor and signed by a parent/guardian.

Speech

  • Grade 11
  • Length of Course:  Required 1 semester
  • Prerequisite:  None

Speech Communication is a required course which fulfills district and state graduation requirements.  Students learn to effectively present ideas and information to others through the preparation and delivery of informative, entertaining, persuasive, ad occasion speeches
